Rome2Rio is my favorite app when planning our next trip.
Rome2Rio is my favorite app when planning our next trip. I can put in any two cities in the world and it will give me options and prices on how to get from one to the other by air, train, bus, car, ferry or any other conceivable way. If we are going to fly, then I use Skyscanner to do my final research and purchase tickets. But if we are going to go by ground, then I can quickly get an overview of options between train and bus. Great App to get started planning our next stop.
Without a doubt it is Google maps
Without a doubt it is Google maps. Don’t know how we lived without it back in the day. Needles to say we were lost a lot more often.
Transit is great for getting around cities via public transportation.
Transit is great for getting around cities via public transportation. We’ve used it in the U.S. and Canada and are thrilled to see it expanding into other countries. It’s easy to use, accurate, and free.
WhatsApp has become indispensable
WhatsApp has become indispensable. It’s been a wonderful and easy way to stay in touch with family back home and to connect with others that I’m traveling with. I love that I’m able to speak and see family when I’m on the other side of the world. I’m also an Android gal so Facetime on Apple isn’t possible. That’s not an issue with WhatsApp.
Google Maps - not just for navigation
Google Maps – not just for navigation (although I’d be “lost” without it), but to find restaurants, check transport connections and much more.
I use tripit to keep track of my different trips.
I use tripit to keep track of my different trips. If it weren’t for tripit sometimes I would not know what city I was in.
The app we use most is Google Maps for sure
The app we use most is Google Maps for sure. If we look for campings, hotels or the surroundings of a house sit, it helps us most.
My all time favourite travel app is maps.me
My all time favourite travel app is maps.me. It’s been an absolute life saver when travelling especially to those places that I’m not familiar with or that have foreign signs. The beauty of this app is that you can use it offline. All you need to do is to download the area you’ll be travelling to (when you have wifi). If you’re like me, I usually search and pin my accommodations, sights to see. You can use this to plan your route, discover restaurants, even see where you are flying over! Just remember to turn in your location setting when your using it! It’s changed the way I travel !!
WhatsApp... This app is a convenient way to easily send photos, have video calls or to send a quick message
We travel as a lifestyle and we purchase SIMS cards for our unlocked phones in each new location. In this manner, we have local numbers making it easier to connect with other locals. However, instead of our family and friends needing to change our phone numbers constantly to match our location, we use WhatsApp. This app is a convenient way to easily send photos, have video calls or to send a quick message. It’s easy, straightforward, and all you need is an internet connection.
Maps.me is a free offline map app which makes my go-to list
As mobile devices have gotten smaller, lighter, and more multi-purpose, travel apps have sprouted like spring weeds in the garden. The number of new entries make it hard to keep track, but I have my old reliables to fall back on, and at the top of that list is Maps.me. Maps.me is a free offline map app which makes my go-to list because it helps me find whatever I want and get turn-by-turn directions without an internet connection. Before leaving home, or anytime there’s an internet connection, I can download map data for my destination to my iPhone or iPad and stop worrying about finding, folding, and fiddling with cumbersome paper maps. The app’s search function searches by name, address, categories, or coordinates, which makes it a breeze to find a specific address or the closest ATM, Metro stop, restaurant, hotel – you name it. So if you’re tired of being lost in strange, new cities or struggling to find your way around download this free app and give it a try.
Our favourite app has to be our offline maps program. We use Maps.me.
Our favourite app has to be our offline maps program. We use Maps.me. It’s free, usable anywhere in the world, and all you need is a GPS connection enabled on your phone. We find it particularly useful when arriving in a new city to be able to pinpoint our accommodation on Maps.me prior to arrival and track our progress from the airport or bus/train station to where we are staying. Some taxis can seem a bit dodgy so tracking your progress on the maps program will show you if the driver is taking you in the right direction and by a reasonable route. An essential travel tool.
Boomer travel isn't complete unless you have the SitOrSquat app
Boomer travel isn’t complete unless you have the SitOrSquat app. With over one hundred thousand public restrooms worldwide on their app, you are sure to find a restroom when you need it most. The interactive map will give you directions, comments, reviews, and even some pictures. The app is sponsored by Charmin and improving all of the time. In spite of my love for travel, I am prone to motion sickness so having a toilet location at my fingertips is especially handy!
My most often used app when I travel is Google Maps.
My most often used app when I travel is Google Maps. Before leaving on an international trip, I download an offline version of the area I will be visiting, this way I can use the map function without incurring data charges. While planning my trip I also save the various sights I am interested in and my hotel so that I can see it marked on the map. This allows me to be efficient when planning my day. With Google Maps and a subway/metro app I can easily get around on my own in any large city like London, Paris, Tokyo, etc.
The Photographers Ephemeris
The Photographers Ephemeris is an app I use regularly to help me plan for my landscape photography. I love that it calculates exactly the direction of sunrises and sunsets, so I can be in just the right spot for my shots. It is a wealth of information and a great tool to preplan my trips, saving me time on location.
The app for whichever airline I’m flying
I use the app for whichever airline I’m flying at the time. Not only does it keep me up to date of flight arrival and departure changes, date changes, but also there’s other information about what’s going on in the terminals like: where to find restaurants, shopping, etc.
